Lamentable play on words, but Amazon’s new e-reader device appears to be generating some interest out there.
An ugly device, expensive too, the Kindle might be like the first iPod and actually create an entirely new market.
There’s a good write up about it here.
Speaking personally, I’d love a device that lets me keep a small library in my pocket, ready to dip into whenever I feel like it. But the screen would need to be crystal clear and pure white with the ‘ink’ as black as traditional text on paper.
And – I have to admit – it would need to look much more stylish than the Kindle!

So would I! What a fantastic idea.
Hi Wayne.
Yes, be great, wouldn’t it? I’m hoping they really make a good go of this because it would be just amazing to carry a couple hundred books around. Think how great it is to carry your cd library on an iPod. In fact, now I think of it, Apple are actually the people who need to push this ahead because they’d make a device that would have people queuing up for it!
I do have reservations about e-readers, but maybe it’s because I’m a traditionalist when it comes to books and dusty old shelves. It will be interesting to see how these devices evolve in the future.
We don’t have the Kindle in the UK as of yet, but I think it might offer an insight into how things might turn out. I wrote about it in my blog yesterday, strangely enough. I love paper books but ebooks are bound to happen … It’s just a matter of how and when.
