I thought it might be interesting – and fun for me – to record myself reading a story I wrote a little while ago. I know when I read someone else’s story I always wonder how it would sound in their voice; what emphasis would they use and which parts would have most resonance for them. Reading seems to be uniquely personal and our own inner voice colours what we read in very subtle ways. Listening to the author ‘thinking out loud’ as it were, might offer some insight into what motivated him to write a particular piece in the first place.
As I write stories – and I must get back to posting at least 1 or two a week – I think it would be quite fun to record some of them and put them up here.
So, here’s the first offering. A note to the technically proficient: I am new to podcasting and still working out the kinks so if sound quality is not what you’d expect, expect it to improve over time!

Hi Amin,
It sounds wonderful and promising but was distinctly muffled for me though that sort of faded, coming into the second minute. Also, it reads very fast when say, compared to what you hear over the BBC. The narrations’a bit too speedy for me.
If you read it just a bit slower so I could understand each and every word, it would be fantastic.
Very cool!
Hi Susan
Thanks for the feedback on that audio.
I did test it before posting and it sounded very clear on my machine – I will have to tweak the settings a bit.
As for the speed, yes, I take your point – bit quick. I was reading it live from my original post and I read pretty quick. I have to chill out!
Thanks again for the feedback.
Hey, Amin–I’ll have to give this a listen when I get home. Have you visited the Scheherazade Project? A friend and I have a monthly writing theme and we give away a prize to a name drawn from the participants. We’d love you to participate if you’re interested. You can find it at http://thescheherazadeproject.blogspot.com.
Have a good one!!
Sorry Susan, all was clear as a bell for me, apart from a slightly
annoying buzz in the background. Your speaking voice was clear, well
enunciated and just the right speed. Maybe you have re-done since
Susan listened? I enjoyed – thank you.
Hi Minx. No, I haven’t redone it yet. I don’t know what the buzz was. The audio sounds so clear on my machine and that’s even when I play it direct from this website.
Still, it’s only my first one so I’ll learn how to make the audio quality better as I go along.
Faith, that Scheherazade project sounds quite fun. I’ll take a look.
