I wanted to write a novel, but wrote this instead.

Reality is as we perceive it

That’s in interesting and provocative title, isn’t it? That our perception of reality shapes reality itself.

Yet that’s one of the conclusions I come to as I read this book – which is really rather good. Now, there’s a difference between the scientific remark that the act of observing influences the outcome of that which is observed and my personal and rather more metaphysical belief that our own personal reality can, indeed, be shaped, if not outright created by what we think.

The book touches a great deal more than that one point, of course, and is a pretty good layman’s guide to the nature of the universe and the problems we face in trying to understand and explain it. Yet for me the most significant bit of the book is still the fact that observation has the power to alter the shape of perception – an encouraging thought. Don’t you think?
