Write Right Now

I wanted to write a novel, but wrote this instead.

Spyware

April 29th, 2007 · No Comments

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m using Windows Vista now and although there are lots of things I like about it, some of the utilities I’ve used on a daily basis with XP no longer work.

Anyway, I’ve been lucky enough to take part in a trial of a new Anti-Spyware product and after I installed it I did the recommended thing, which was to run a full scan.

You can imagine my complete horror when I saw that I had 7 pieces of spyware on my system – including a keylogger. Although that spyware has now been removed by the new Anti-Spyware package I’m stil left reeling at the possibility that some of my passwords have been transmitted somewhere without my knowledge.

That leaves me working my way through all my passwords and changing them all. Quite a task when you consider I have nearly 200 separate login user ids and passwords.

Although I’m not allowed to mention the name of the product since it hasn’t launched yet, I can tell you I’ll be getting a full copy as soon as it’s commercially available. I don’t ever want to see spyware on my machine again.

The Vista experience was supposed to be much more secure for users. When will we actually get real security on our machines?

It’s almost enough to make me switch to Macs exclusively. In fact the only reason I still use PCs is for the 4 or 5 programs I currently have to use that only work properly on a Windows PC. If I could ditch the PC right now I would.
