I was very pleased with the last line myself, if I'm honest. I liked it better than the rest of the piece, actually. But how well you shatter the guise the author has created for himself. There's a poignancy, but it's barbed. It's a story that holds you captive until you, as reader, learns the truth just as the narrator does. I really enjoyed this, though I did find it unsettling - possibly because it reminds me of a movie I saw when I was way too young to see it - about a mother raising her daughters - only it turned out the mother was really the father who had murdered the real mother!
